Tomatoes - Easy Grow Series 1

Tomato plants are easy to grow and are highly productive. There are different types of tomatoes and all of them are easy to grow. Tomato plants requires lot of sunlight and they are best kept in open terrace. Here are few tips to kick start your organic garden with tomatoes: 1. Seed Selection: You can either take seeds from tomato or buy seeds from local or organic stores. There are many varieties available and you can choose a variety which you need.  2. Place: As mentioned earlier tomato plants need lots of sunlight. They thrive well in 8-10 hours of sunlight. Select a spot which will fulfill this criteria in your organic rooftop garden. 3. Pot and Soil Selection: Like every other plants tomato plants needs a lot of nutrients to grow and to be highly productive. You can select a large size pot or grow bag and fill it with Coco peat: Red Soil: vermicompost in the ratio 2:1:2 or 2:1:1. Prepare four to five pots as per your need and make sure to grow

A good potting mix provides the plants with very good nutrition's which helps in the plant's growth. The best general potting mix should have air space, nutrients, and good water retention. To have good air space and water retention we can use coir pith. For providing ample nutrition's we can use vermicompost or home made vegetable compost. Organic gardening is the practice of growing vegetables, herbs and fruits relying only things found in nature. The main difference between conventional gardening and organic gardening is the use of fertilizers and pest control. The soil plays an important role in providing your plants with nutrients, water and oxygen. You can make your soil rich by adding decayed plant material which is an essential ingredient in fertile soils. In tropical climate like India where the temperature crosses 35 degree celcius during day times, its a good idea to add coco peat in the soil which will help retain water and helps the plants from drying out. Even though organic gardens can take time to establish and require a certain amount of dedication, the organic way to garden is safer, cheaper, and more satisfying!
